My kids want me to go white water rafting with them

by Monica

I’m all for family vacations, and as I said, I enjoy nature and being outdoors.  When I was younger I even went spelunking with a friend in a very muddy nasty narrow cave.  That was an adventure in and of itself!

Anyway, I have always been a physically active person, and I do enjoy being with my family, and I do love the outdoors.  So, my kids have approached me about going whitewater rafting with them on a family vacation this summer.  They have done some research and found a company in Pennsylvania within easy driving distance from us that offers a beginner level of whitewater rafting, they say that the minimum age of the rafter should be five years old, so that should be a mild rafting experience.

The company, Whitewater Challengers, has 30 years of experience in white water rafting vacations, and has five different whitewater rafting locations that vary from very easy to extremely challenging.  I think I’ll check them out!

Water Fun

by Monica

Since my mom lives on the water and has a big house with lots of room, we try to drive down to her house at least 3 or 4 times over the summer to spend the weekend with her and take advantage of the water sports. She and my stepfather have a large dock and several boats, so there is always plenty of fishing, swimming, and water skiing right in front of her house.

My son has expressed an interest in learning to wakeboard this summer. We’ve seen some of my mom’s neighbors doing that on the river and it does look like fun. I don’t know if it is easier than waterskiing – which I am very good at – or if it takes about the same level of fitness and skill. If my son gives it a try and it’s not too hard, I would be willing to give it a try, too.

We found a site online that carries a full selection of wakeboard styles and brands, so I think we will order one and have it delivered to my mom’s house. Next time we go down for the weekend, we can try it out. Looks like fun!

Super Bowl Party!

by Monica

Looking forward to watching the Super Bowl this afternoon. We are going to a party at our neighbor’s house. Everyone is bringing potluck and their own beer. It should be a lot of fun.

I’m more interested in the commercials than the game. My football team didn’t do well this year, and I’m not a big fan of either team, although they both deserve the recognition for getting this far and having the chance to win the Almightly Super Bowl.

Sure hope the half time entertainment is more family friendly this year. I can’t believe the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake “thing” was ever allowed to be on the air. That really tainted the whole game experience for me and I haven’t wanted to watch the Super Bowl ever since that happened. I can (and do) see all those commercials anyway – don’t need football for THAT!  But today it is a chance to visit with the neighbors and get to know them a little better. That will be nice.

I’m going to run the vacuum and fold the last load of laundry, then head over to the party. Hasta la vista!
