Local Wine

by Monica

Tonight I got a chance to taste some of the local wine at one of the networking meetings that I try to attend in town as often as I can. This time the Chamber of Commerce had a great selection of wine and beer along with the most wonderful finger foods that I have had in a long time. It was supposed to have been held outside, they had the place all set up looking good and right before it started the clouds opened up and man did it pour, so we all had to cram inside the bank lobby that it was held at. It was still a good time, I met some pretty cool people and saw a few people that I hadn’t seen in a while, so it was worth getting a tad bit wet along the way.

BTW a great resource for wine drinkers can be found at wine.com, some good stuff there.

Get Out of Dodge and Go West

by Monica

With jobs being so hard to come by these days it really irks me to hear how some folks can be so picky and petty when a job opportunity comes around. Cindy has been looking for work for over a year and a half and has finally had an offer from a reputable los angeles criminal defense lawyer  that she is/was so excited about and her nit wit boyfriend is harassing her about working for any california criminal lawyer because he doesn’t like the idea of her being around a bunch of “dolled up” lawyers – what ever the heck that means. Nor does he approve of he working for people that defend the trash and scum of the earth.

I know, crazy right. I don’t know this guy very well, but the more I hear about him the less I like the sound of him and then today hearing about his reaction to this whole just blows my mind, doesn’t make any sense and makes me want to go over there and just shake him and then shake Cindy and help her pack her bags and get the heck out of Dodge. Umf!

Humanitarians Visions

by Monica

The current trend of vision for humanitarians is by far one of the best trends that I’ve heard of in quite some time. There seems to be a growing number of eye wear businesses that are offering all types of glasses at a more affordable price then in the past as well as donating a pair of glasses to people all over the world who can’t afford their own because of poverty limitations.

Warby Parker is one such humanitarian and I wanted to take advantage of my blog to try and promote this company. You can check out more about Warby Parker and his business at Warbyparker.com and see for yourself what you can not only do for yourself but for someone in much dire need as well. The prescription glasses that you can order from them are only $95 with free shipping. You can go on their website and use their virtual eye glass try on feature and see if there is something there that you just can’t live without.

A Good Californian Lemon Law Attorney

by Monica

It’s god to know that there are California Lemon Law attorneys out there to help people like my brother-in-law who have been taken for a chunk of change on a vehicle and have no other recourse than looking for California Lemon law lawyers for assistance. It hasn’t been a very good year for he and my kid sister and it’s only the end of February for heaven’s sake.

They have only just packed up and relocated out west when he was in a car accident that has left him unable to work, so lil sis is working and doing double duty trying to keep their heads above water. With their newly received tax refund check that they were so anxious and happy to receive, they purchased a vehicle, used but new to them, and they were thrilled. The thrill abruptly came to a halt the very next day when the card up and died right then and there in their drive way.

Long story short, lil sis Googled “Lemon Law attorneys in California” and found a good lemon law attorney.  Now let the games begin and let the best man win. And that man is married to my sis, bless his heart.

The new job market

by Monica

The entire world seems to be changing at a breathtaking, breakneck speed. There just does not seem to be any kind of security anymore in any area that you look into. This past weekend I was talking with some people who are looking for some freelance work because they are having a hard time find employment with “just one” business.

The conversation revolved around how companies are not showing their employees the kind of loyalty and giving them the kinds of benefits that the previous generations of employees enjoyed.  It used to be that a person went to work for one company and stayed with that one company for their entire work life, and retired with a nice defined benefit pension plan.  Finding a company that gives their employees a defined benefit pension plan is almost impossible in this day and age!  Because companies are not inclined to treat their employees as well as they used to, the employees are not showing the companies much loyalty, either, and jump from job to job to job, always looking to make the most money they can because they need to finance their own retirement.  So job security is no longer a “given” anymore.
